Norwich is home to many historical structures – Norwich Cathedral stands pride of place in the city landscape and you can see the remains of the city wall dating back to 1294. Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery was originally a Norman motte-and bailey castle, and is still complete with castle-keep and dungeons. The museum is well known for its natural history exhibits and the Cotman and Crome art galleries house the prestigious paintings of the Norwich School Painters. The museum regularly has exhibitions and special events and if you’re short of time, you can pop in for £2 between 12 and 1pm weekdays.
Why not enjoy an evening at the theatre? At the Theatre Royal you can see both touring and local shows but book in advance. There are also several cinemas including the Odeon at Riverside, VUE in the Castle Mall and Cinema City.
If in need of retail therapy, Norwich has plenty of shops. There’s Chapelfield Mall along St. Stephens and Castle Mall near Castle Meadow. The Grand Arcade is a unique Art Nouveau shopping arcade and Jarrolds is perhaps one of the most recognisable long-serving Norwich department stores.
